About Me

I read too many books, and have nobody to talk about them with. I'm interested in all the ways modern society is alienating, isolating, and malnourishing in every respect. I like to think about all the pathologies that come out of this, especially the mind-body connection and how humans trying to survive the modern world relate to our food and other forms of nourishment. And when I say "humans" I'm including myself, and by "all the pathologies" I mostly mean "my pathologies," which I like to navel-gaze about because it's my blog and I can.

I have a B.A. in Classics, and stubbornly cling to my unfashionable faith in the humanities as a necessary part of a just society. I care about liberal education. I spent 2 years working in the test prep industry, which resulted in a deep and abiding hatred of the SAT and all its ilk (and more importantly, the institutional and socioeconomic mess that gave rise to the need for these tests in the first place).

I eat food, not food products. I do not have a driver's license and refuse to get one. I don't buy things made by people suffering from abusive working conditions (except from Goodwill or other secondhand stores where the thing would otherwise just go to waste). This includes anything and everything made in China. In practice, this means that I rarely buy anything at all. Most of the time, I feel content with my life choices, and then sometimes I break down and throw temper tantrums about how much I hate being so completely isolated from society because of them. Sorry in advance.
